Doug O’Neill, who would have been Elivette’s new trainer, on Saturday said his “main focus was the filly.”
“It’s a horrible, sad situation,” he said..........
But what was really terrible is that the filly was made to suffer for 15 more minutes while getting her off the track and back to the barn. We put her down as soon as she got back to the barn.
earlier in the meeting:
“The track veterinarian said she had to be put down, that she broke sesamoids,” Abrams said. “My vet looked at her and then took X-rays and said she has a chip off a sesamoid, a small fracture, but that she didn’t have to be put down. When my vet came to the barn, he brought the euthanizing fluid with him because he was going on what the state vet said.”
