Re: Weather for Arc looks good"That, of course, means Sea The Stars’ participation in the Breeders’ Cup is greatly diminished, although trainer John Oxx has not completely shut that door. We’ll just have to see how the colt comes out of the race and whether Oxx wishes to run him into November after a long year that goes all the way back to his Two Thousand Guineas (Eng-I) victory in early May."
Not sure I agree with this article. I was under the impression that had Sea the Stars missed the Arc due to bad weather, he would run in a race later in October in England, thus missing the Classic. But if he ran in the Arc, he would have more time to recover (for the Classic). Bob B?????? Please explain this. Re: Weather for Arc looks goodAll summer Oxx was quoted as saying there would be three more races after the Eclipse. They were going to be either the King George or Juddmonte International (ran in JI), the Irish Champion Stakes (ran in it) and one of three races to conclude his season, the Arc, the Champion Stakes at Newmarket or the Breeders Cup. I've never seen a quote mentioning Arc and BC or Champion and BC, only one of the three to end the season. This doesn't mean they can't change their mind, but from everything previously said, a run in the Arc would mean no run in the Champion or BC.

Re: Weather for Arc looks good
Thanx, I must have misunderstood. I interpreted that if they ran in the ARC and not in the Newmarket race (Oct 17th), then Sea the Stars would run in the Classic. They probably meant he'd have a better chance to run in the Classic (if they ran in the Arc and bypassed Newmarket). Dam Racing Form writers. Re: Weather for Arc looks good
Bob, Sea The Stars apparently is a horse who likes to race at regular intervals, which appear to be monthly. Assuming the Arc doesn't take too much out of him, he could conceivably run in November, although I have reservations that it would be in the Breeders' Cup due to the rigors of travel. I asked this question several days ago, so I'll ask it again here: If the connections reconsider racing him again, could Sea The Stars race in November but on the European continent close to home, and then go to Hong Kong for the Dec. 12 Hong Kong Cup? Or perhaps simply train to the Hong Kong Cup? Tsui runs a night club over there, correct? I'm wondering if they're considering a run at that Cup as a sendoff for the horse. It's 1 1/4 miles or thereabouts, so at a distance to his liking.
Re: Weather for Arc looks good
Why would you want Sea The Stars to race more than planned? Why would you want him to race, when his connections said he would only be raced 3 times. Don't you believe that Sea The Stars deserves a break?? Just curious . . . . . . . . Nureyev . . . . my Twinkle Toes

Re: Weather for Arc looks goodI guess this is what confused me:
"That Sea the Stars requires fast ground improves his chances of winding up in the Classic, although the Irish Champion and the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe on Oct. 4 are his preferred stops before then." Re: Weather for Arc looks good
I didn't say I "want Sea The Stars to race more than planned", not in this thread anyway. I was only speculating on what "could" happen but probably won't. I admit I really enjoy and admire this horse so when he's finished, I'll miss him, so perhaps in a sense I am saying "I want him to run more" but that's only natural when you really admire a horse. But it's perfectly fine with me if he doesn't, and I'm glad he's likely to be retired. If the connections decided to race him again, I'd want it to, so I was suggesting that because the horse is so exciting to watch and he's the best in the world. It wouldn't disappoint me though if he doesn't race after the Arc, and I suspect he won't. I've followed Sea The Stars since his Guineas win, have seen all his races live since then, and have hoped for a long time that he'd run in the Arc. That's what I've wanted for this horse all along, and it appears I'll get my wish. I am satisfied, and I want this horse to leave racing sound and healthy.

Re: Weather for Arc looks goodAssorted quotes from Oxx on 9/14/09...
"If he misses the race, then obviously we have to look at the two races left, which would be Newmarket and Santa Anita, and probably the Classic [at the Breeders' Cup] rather than the Turf. "The horse will tell us what to do. [The Breeders' Cup] is very late in the year for a horse that's had a Guineas run, but if we miss the Arc we would have to seriously contemplate it." http://www.guardian.co.uk/sport/2009/se ... rse-racing If the rain does stop the Cape Cross colt from running in France, Oxx has two other options. 'If we miss the Arc we'll have to look at the Champion Stakes at Newmarket or Santa Anita (Breeders' Cup) and it would probably be the Classic rather than the Turf,' continued Oxx. 'The owners have no wish to see him race in Hong Kong, it is too late for a three-year-old and the Breeders' Cup is plenty late enough. 'No final decision has been taken yet, but it is highly unlikely he'll be in training next year. http://www.rte.ie/sport/racing/2009/091 ... stars.html "I'm Winston Wolf. I solve problems."
