This is an incredibly distressing story. figuratively makes me sick to my stomach and makes me want to cry.
I loved Smokey Stover. He was one of my favorite horses in his day. I had the great fortune of seeing him run a few times too.
An absolutely striking horse and one of the few horses that I've seen that had that "look" in his eye. Like he knew what he was there for and he knew he was the man.(Lava Man was another like that). I remember how darn alert he was in the paddock. Noticing everything around him. A VERY smart horse(in as much as horses can be smart).
I've gotta think his light is on much more than most and it makes me feel as if he can probably sense how low he's fallen now.
I hope somehow things get notably better for him and somehow he can lead a long, somewhat healthy life.
One heck of a racehorse and one I followed from his 2nd race on.
I REALLY hope this guy has something go his way. On his game ... He was eye-popping!
He deserves such a better fate than the one he seemingly has before him.
600 hundred bucks ... That's sickening. Somehow I hope he finds a way to health, appreciation and happiness.
Sorry ... I just love the guy. This is very, very sad indeed.
Beautiful black horse with a big white blaze down his nose ... and what a beautiful physical specimen he was in his prime.
Hang in there Smokey.
