Our Mims Retirement Haven of Paris, Kentucky announces the arrival of Taba Dance on September 10, 2009. The twenty-one year old mare by Sovereign Dancer is out of the Argentinean champion Taba. Taba Dance’s progeny includes Tabadabado, a 1997 mare by Gilded Time who earned over $160,000 on the track. She still has two unraced foals yet to prove themselves on the track. Taba Dance was donated to the Haven by her owners, Cathy and Robert Dickerson. She shipped in from Ocala, Florida.
Taba was one of the first mares to arrive as OMRH’s official ladies, donated to the nonprofit by the Gaines-Gentry group. She came with Iza Valentine, Jamra, and Exactly So. She died in 2005.
Taba Dance is a half-sister to Eclipse Champion Turkoman (a son of Taba). OMRH is currently subsidizing Turkoman’s board at E.A. Ranches. He was pensioned last year.
Jeanne Mirabito, OMRH Farm Manager, “Walking Taba Dance into the stall that once belonged to her Dam, Taba, was incredible. It was like I could feel generations of great horses along side of us. I can see Taba's influence. We're honored to provide Taba Dance a forever home.”
OMRH Director of Fund Raising and Promotion Cheryl Bellucci added, “Any equine rescue or sanctuary will tell you that it’s tough getting by these days. Need is up and donations are down, but when we got a chance to take in the daughter of one of our first ladies, we didn’t hesitate to accept. Her arrival marks a historical event for the Haven.”
Taba Dance joins Hana Bride, Australian-born Princess Royale, Bel’s Starlet, Little Miss Porter, Blue Viking, Cruella, Lotka, and Ms Royal Flagship at the Haven. Plans are currently being put into place to add Ms Stalwart and Missy White Oak from Florida to the Haven’s roster of ladies.
OMRH lost three ladies this year: Alabama Nana, Jamra, and Iza Valentine.
OMRH became a 501(c)3 nonprofit in 2006. Featured in Barbara Livingston's "More Old Friends," the Haven specializes in "restoring health and spirit in aged mares."
The Haven is supported through donations, eBay auctions, and its online shop. OMRH is currently holding a building fund drive to complete renovations to its main barn and fencing.
The Haven is home to Timeless Sue, Hana Bride, Little Miss Porter, Princess Royale, Bel’s Starlet, Cruella, Blue Viking, Lotka, Ms Royal Flagship, and Taba Dance. The Haven recently housed Gallipiat’s Moment for Old Friends while the gelding’s place was being prepared for him at Old Friends. Arrangements are being made to bring Ms Stalwart and Missy White Oak to the Haven from Florida.
