Tyler Baze quote from "I'm Smokin" Stakes

Postby Tairaterces » Tue Sep 08, 2009 10:55 pm

Thank you Tyler Baze!!

TYLER BAZE (Yogaroo) (Eased and Baze dismounted shortly after the finish line) – “I wasn’t sure. He got really tired. Then he whinneyed real loud on me. Last time I had a horse do that, he dropped dead shortly thereafter. I think he might have a breathing problem. But I wasn’t going to take any chances.”

Wow. I hope the owners appreciated Tyler's concern with their horse's well being.

I am always grateful to learn that there are some jocks out there who can be aggressive and competitive -- who can get the most from the horse in a race -- but, at the same time, they are experienced and "in tune" enough to take care of the horse in the process.
I bet on a horse at ten-to-one. It didn't come in until half-past five.
My horse was so late getting home, he tiptoed into the stable.

I got from that statement from Tyler that the concern was for himself, and I don't blame him, who wants a horse to drop dead with you on him, Tyler has had enough injuries this year.

Agreed. I am sure that Tyler was concerned for his own safety. But the horse's safety and jockey's safety usually are tied together -- take care of one, you take care of the other. And Tyler isn't the type, from what I have seen, to abandon a horse once he jumps off.

Tyler is one of my favorite jockeys. He cares about the horse. He was the only one that said Hi to us on P.C day going out on track for the P.C. Nice nice guy.
