Re: HOYApril Run, Azeri, Zarkova.....I'm sure there are a few others.
But her race today was monsterish - running those fractions under pressure and then holding off a GRI winner. Simply amazing and I even lost myass on what I thought was a great bet at 8-1 (Macho Uno). Amazing performance by this great filly - she deserves whatever awards she gets. Congrats to her jock, trainer and owner for having the balls to run against older males. Vince P Women and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea.

Re: HOYClassy, I previously put this on another thread, but then decided it would be more appropriate here, since you asked the question. Some of this may be redundant to what has already been said.
Ten females have been named Horse of the Year, pre-Eclipse and Eclipse, all fillies, except the five-year-old Imp. Many of these ladies gained the honor as three-year-olds. Miss Woodford received the award twice, as a three and four-year-old, and two three-year-old fillies won it in consecutive years, Twilight Tear (1944) and Busher (1945). Mocassin was named HOY (1965) as a two-year-old by TRA. Roman Brother got the award that year from DRF. A good book is "Women of the Year" (Eclipse Press), which discusses these ten females. What they did on the racetrack was absolutely extraordinary, and I'm anxious to see Rachel join this exclusive company. According to this book, Mocassin was also named HOY, as a juvenile, by 'Turf and Sport Digest'.
