I dunno what her odds would've been, but the trifecta players woulda been well rewarded with her off the board!

Maybe 4th to complete the super, but doubtful imho.

Have no idea what Rachael would have done, but there is no doubt in my mind Zenyatta would have won the Pacific Classic by 2 lengths, as the race set up absolutely perfect for her.

It's a real shame the connections didn't enter her in the PC..oh well..

That's the thing about opprotunity. Once it's gone, it's gone forever.

If ever there was an appropriate time to use the FACT gif, this would be it....

It's a crying shame.

There is also no doubt in my mind that if I weren't a jockey, I would be starting at shortstop for the Los Angeles Dodgers tonight in Arizona.

But like you said, the race would have set up perfectly for her and she would have mowed them boys down by about 7 lengths or so.

Why didn't she run?

Is it a boy-girl thing? Was it the distance? Or was this race simply too easy and meaningless for her in the long run and they should simply wait for the tougher competition in the Lady's Secret?

Don't get my wrong - I think John Sheriff's is one of the greatest trainers in history and a nice guy too, but I'm trying to get into his mind about why Zenyatta’s connections passed up a golden opportunity to take down an easy $600,000.17. I read a month ago they were very interested in this race.

I would have run her in the PC even though it ain't PC to do so. Who knows - perhaps Zenyatta would have put on a Rachelesque performance or something.

I have to ask, why bring Zenyatta back if she's just going to do the same thing that she did last year? At least let her face males and see how she does. She may not win, but how will they ever know if they don't allow her to run against them?

I also remember reading comments from Z's camp that they might consider the PC. But fairly soon after her narrow win in the Clement L. Hirsch, it appeared that the plans to wait for the Lady's Secret solidified. Maybe this year's version of Del Mar Polytrack wasn't completely to her liking and maybe 4 weeks between the Hirsch and the PC would not have been enough time for her to race again. So, regardless of how the race eventually did shape up, in Z's connections' minds, the PC would not have been a lock to preserve Z's undefeated record.

It looks like Z's connections only want to race her two more times -- so they can tie Personal Ensign in a prep race, and surpass Personal Ensign in the BC Ladies' Classic for all the world to see. (I'm not convinced, yet, that they will risk her perfect record by running her in the BC Classic.) They chose a prep race that is more than four weeks out from the Hirsch, that she should win (easily), and that will be run over the BC surface.
I bet on a horse at ten-to-one. It didn't come in until half-past five.
My horse was so late getting home, he tiptoed into the stable.
