Chantal uses wrong whip

Chantal was found to have used an old type whip in a race at Woodbine that she won, now the horse may have to forfeit it's share of the purse. Who's responsible for checking ? The Paddock Judge as they leave to the track ? Is it checked in the jock's room before they even go out to the walking ring ?

Why even have the old-style whips around the jock's room?
Don't they have homes they can take them to?

Damn expensive mistake. Of course, they won't let her get away with it...they can't.....everyone else will start "forgetting" if they do.....

excerpt:

"Jockey (Chantal) Sutherland went to the post without the proper equipment – the wrong whip – and that went against the ORC rules," said ORC steward Bill McMahon.

Sutherland noticed she had the wrong whip in the post parade for the $66,800 allowance event. She gave her whip to an outrider before the race, and was given yet another incorrect whip at the starting gate before the race.

"I did all that I could to correct the mistake," said Sutherland. "I mean, fine me for making the mistake but don't take it out on the owner and trainer." Sutherland was hit with a $200 fine by the ORC.
"And Afleet Alex just ran right by Giacomo like he was standing still!"

They don't. Apparently, they gave them to the outriders and the gate crew. Go figure....

You mean, like, a retirement home for old whips?
