I know this may be a tough one because of the famous '96 running when Cigar was trying to continue his undefeated streak & it was on national TV & there was a record racetrack crowd, but still I have fond memories of several other runnings.
One of them was the first Win by Skimming, yeah that one was special to me for a couple of reasons. 1st I had a little side bet with a buddy that Skimming would not falter on the lead. 2nd I also correctly touted jockey Garret Gomez as an up & coming jockey to watch out for at the time, even though he was having a lot of off the racetrack problems then.
The other Pacific Classic that goes down as one of my favorites is the 2007 running when a horse named Student Council shipped in specifically to race on the new Poly surface. When I first saw in the pp's this horse shipping into Del Mar for the 1st time, I immediately said heres my longshot horse for the Pac-Classic. Man I was like a kid on Xmas morning when he crossed the finish line the Winner, One of my better moments as a handicapper of the Pacific Classic.

Rails,
They're running the Pacific Classic at Del Mar this year, so there may be a thread in the Del Mar sub unit folder thing on this subject:-)

I have 2,The 1st one with Best Pal, one of my all time favorites. Was a wonderful day. And 2nd when Came Home beat War Emblem and a solid field. When Trevor said WE stuck his head in front the DM stands exploded and the stands shook. Even though CH won the race it was a bittersweet day. Plus my once in awhile friend Delyatta cashed a nice ticket on CH. I think I even got a beer sampler out of it.

Pleasantly Perfect still the best By JAY PRIVMAN Horsephotos Pleasantly Perfect (right) holds Perfect Drift a length safe to win the Grade 1, $1,000,000 Pacific Classic at Del Mar on Sunday and push his career earnings over the $7-million mark. DEL MAR, Calif. - Pleasantly Perfect, even at less than his best, is still the best horse in the world.
In a performance that trainer Richard Mandella characterized as a move forward, but still below what Pleasantly Perfect can do at his optimum, Pleasantly Perfect won his third important Grade 1, 10-furlong race in the last 10 months in the $1 million Pacific Classic on Sunday at Del Mar.
Before a crowd of 30,177, Pleasantly Perfect overtook Total Impact at the top of the stretch and then safely held off Perfect Drift to win the biggest and richest race of the summer season here.

I loved 2 in particular......I liked the initial Pacific Classic, b/c the field was deep w/talented runners. I thought Twilight Agenda was gone that day, but CA bred Best Pal ran him down. Twilight Agenda didn't back up, Best Pal had to ignite inside the sixteenth pole to gun him down.
And of course, I loved seeing Free House defeat Touch Gold and Gentlemen to win the Pacific Classic. For Free House, who was very modestly bred, it completed his resume that saw him win the SA Derby as a 3 YO, then the SA Big Cap and Pacific Classic later on in his career.
And of course, he hit the board in all three TC races his 3 year old season, sparring with the likes of Pulpit, Silver Charm, Captain Bodgit, Touch Gold, and others........
