Breezing vs. Handily??????

Postby Pointgiven3 » Mon Aug 31, 2009 12:55 pm

I have noticed that a lot of east coast tracks denoted the majority of there works in the morning as breezing, while most morning workouts in California are denoted as handily. Why is that? Do east coast clockers and west coast clockers differ in there interpretations of workouts???

Thanks to anyone who cares to respond!!!!!! :D

My understanding is that it is just reversed--confusing if one is trying to compare! But on the West Coast, "breezing" means that the horse is doing it all on his own without urging. "Handily" reflects at least a little bit of urging or encouragment.

However, West Coast clockers so rarely use "breezing" that its hard to figure out just what makes a work qualify, as I've seen a number of videos of works where the rider looks pretty still but it still comes up "handily."

I can't imagine how Zensational could have gone 5 furlongs in 57 flat "breezing."

What about tracks that aren't on the East or West coast, like Churchill Downs, Arlington, and Oaklawn? How do they distinguish "B" and "H" works?

Arlington has more "B" works than "H" works, but they do give out some "H" works. I believe they use the "H" as it is intended- a horse that was urged in the workout.

stick with afternoon workouts! An afternoon workout is
on video, correct horse and name and you
decide breezing or handy...
