What about the flip side.....

the horses are going down the backstretch, and an apprentice jockey is strangling a horse that obviously wants to run free on the lead, to the point of becoming rank, and he finally gets frustrated, shortens stride and loses all chance.

do the stewards call that jockey in and hand out a suspension for failure to trying to get the most of a horse?

All's I'm saying is that jockeys do bonehead things every race, every day at every track.
They didn't earn their "size 3" reputations overnight or because of one Jordanesque move.

Some of the better ones.....Chris Antley darn near did it in a triple crown race waving that #1 finger to the crowd, remember DWL saying he would have put that finger in a glass jar of formaldehyde back at the barn if he had gotten caught at the wire.

Then there's current crowd favorite Calvin Borrail who stops riding in the stretch, shifts around in the saddle so the cameras can capture a Kodak moment, he's done everything but fall off. It will be little surprise someday when the horse overreacts and who knows what bad thing will eventually happen.

And this doesn't even address the jocks that don't have a clock in their head, or the ones that move for a hole that's moving faster than they are, the ones that drop their whips or fail to listen to instructions about not using the left hand, there are plenty of mistakes that don't get punished, I'm not sure how the stewards can pick on this one alone?

I think the industry has a way of policing itself for the likes of a Jordan.....mounts will be hard to come by and the prices will be refelected on the board of her abilities, isn't that what the game is all about?
And remember...Things work out best when you make the best of the way things work out.

Lurker, I'm sure the stewards wouldn't have gotten away with the 10 days had it been Kent D or Shoe. First of they wouldn't have said that they screwed up.

Steward Ward's comments are in sync w/my feelings after watching the race.

Springer was really out of rhythm w/the horse she was riding. It reminded me of watching someone really uncoordinated (like myself) trying to dance without the assistance of alchohol.

Trainer Ron Ellis, who was live on the air with TVG as a host at the time, appeared stunned at watching Springer's stretch run live. Is there any way to get his comments somewhere?
