Re: Jockeys Will No Longer Serve SuspensionsNo rules or laws would have to be changed. The stewards already have the latitude to impose fines. They have usually been used for things such as whip violations, being late to the jockeys room, altercations with other riders and things like that. This, if adopted would be more of a directive to the stewards to begin to incorporate the option of a fine in lieu of a suspension when imposing sanctions for on the track riding infractions.
Re: Jockeys Will No Longer Serve Suspensions
The California Horse Racing Board is the state's racing commission. They set the rules for racing and would have the authority to make a change such as this. I hate it when I don't forward chain letter and I die the next day!
Re: Jockeys Will No Longer Serve SuspensionsI feel that time-off would be more of a deterrent than money, double the time if the infraction is repeated. The time should be served in an expedient manner and should include stakes races. The exclusion of stakes races for suspensions is ridiculous. They're saying you did a dangerous thing to get your suspension . . . . . . but go ahead and win a stakes race . . . . . . . . . . ?????????????????????????????????????
