I read in yesterday's DRF that after this meet and before new condition book comes out that the Stewards have decided to only fine jockeys for infractions
and that they will no longer have to serve suspensions. Any thoughts???????

Re: Jockeys Will No Longer Serve SuspensionsTerrible. Unless the fines are substantial amounts of money.
Re: Jockeys Will No Longer Serve Suspensions
After a bit of searching, I found this on the agenda for today's CHRB meeting. I doubt they've had time to act on it yet.
I hate it when I don't forward chain letter and I die the next day!
Re: Jockeys Will No Longer Serve SuspensionsCareless riding can inflict injury on other jockeys and horses.
For that a jockey is given days. Medications-cortisone, snake venom and hoof de-nerving can inflict injury and death to horses and jockeys but no suspension of either trainer or vet.
Re: Jockeys Will No Longer Serve SuspensionsWould only be effective if the fine matches the amount of the jocks fee for 1st place purse pay out.

Re: Jockeys Will No Longer Serve SuspensionsI hope this never comes to pass....you can easily see what has happenned on the trainer front ....fines are laughable....and the better jockeys have more money....not equal at all.....
Re: Jockeys Will No Longer Serve Suspensions
There was an item for discussion at todays CHRB meeting. Thoughts on both side of the issue were presented to the board. All parties were urged to hash it out amongst themeselves then return at a later meeting with recomendations. If there is a change in procedure it certainly is not imminent.
Re: Jockeys Will No Longer Serve SuspensionsHey Vic, If the CHRB removes stayed suspensions and only fines your rider for an infraction on the track, will that effect your commissions that Joel
gives you? If not, this fine only situation seems like a good thing for jockey agents.
Re: Jockeys Will No Longer Serve Suspensions
I cannot speak for other riders and agents. In my case if Joel recieved a fine I would pay 25%.
Re: Jockeys Will No Longer Serve Suspensions
I'm not a California resident and have very little knowledge of the legislative processes in Cali...but, would this type of potential change in procedure require some type of state law (or, rules and regulations) change; or, would it simply be a change in process that does not require a regulatory change to the law governing horse racing in Cali? I guess another potential response could be that it would typically require a rule change - but, if under the current rule, the procedure could simply be adopted "informally" - that would work to... Wondering if anyone has that knowledge of what types of hoops may need to be jumped through - if at all? Wilson
