Mike Smith on Mine That Bird for next 2 starts

Looks like the earlier report was wrong. Mike will ride the horse for the WV Derby and Travers. Obviously he couldn't commit to the BC.

Here's the latest bloodhorse report:

Yay! Although I would have been very happy with Julien Leparoux (very patient and good with come from behind horses), I'm glad Mike "Nature Boy" is able to ride MTB again. Good luck to them in West Virginia next time out!

Just hope the Moss connections don't have Tiago pointed to the Del Mar Mile on August 29th since that's also the day of the Travers.

Good deal, he knows how he runs now. I am sure he will give him a good ride.

MTB is overrated. Yes he won the Derby but over a weak bunch imho. The better 3 yr olds scratched out. The crop looks like a MASH unit. Plus the ones he beat in the derby havent done anything since then. As far as I'm concerned MTB will face fresh horses again and will be exposed as a mediocre horse who won the derby.
