Six-way photo for the win

Postby Dgstan » Sun Aug 23, 2009 7:16 pm

I know nobody here plays any attention to New York racing, but yesterday at the SPA, there was a six-way photo for the win in a mile and a sixteen turf race. Photo and video below...

Christophe Clement trains the winner of Saturday’s six-way turf photo in race No. 9 – appropriately named Grassy – and even he was still marveling over the outcome Sunday morning.

“It was a great finish and I am a very lucky guy, because I was on the right side of it,” Clement said. “But the crowd – they appreciated the finish and they were clapping before the numbers even came on the board. It was spectacular and I was very proud to be a part of that.”

Two even extra remarkable things after seeing that race. One, that there was no dead-heats in any of the six top spots or in the converse the N.Y. stews could even see every nose perfectly. But the second, and the one that will get the least notice is the winner almost fell on it's face at the start and had to circle the entire field to get up as the favorite.

As the track announcer up at Arapahoe Park would say, "You could throw a diaper across 'em." (Must be a BIG baby if its diaper would fit.)

Fantastic finish; it looked like a cavalry charge.
