Kermit--as you know from the wagering perspective, a horse who was your best friend last week, could turn out to be your worst enemy next week. That's just the way it is.

Lurker--sometimes it is ok to leave the rubber band on and just yell for a horse. The question is if we straight bet her and she wins, do we cash, or keep the ticket as proof that we witnessed history in the making?

Fredo--not sure why 13 for 13 is kool-aid, but since you are going to to try to beat her, best of luck to you.

Risen Star--we are on the same page, I hope Zenyatta can pull it out.

Billmose--age is just a number, it comes down to how one feels.

Breeders Cup is here and I am looking forward to some fabulous racing at a wonderful venue. Good luck to all of you here on the DelMar forum.

Age is often more than just a number my friend.

In this case it could possibly explain your lack of knowledge or remembrance of great mares past ie.

Princess Rooney
Ruffian
Silver Spoon
Bayakoa
Foolish Pleasure
Winning Colors
Exotic Wood
Lady's Secret
Personal Ensign
Sweet Catomine
Silverbullitday
Sharp Cat
Pasaena
Royal Native
Azeri
et al.

Better than all these broads and their innumerable contemporaries I think not.
Better than most of them.......Not even.

When the topic of great filly/mares came up I too imediatley thought of Pasena and Bayoka and Serenas Song. Pretty impressive list

Hopefully it continues with Fleeting Spirit and Dar Re Mi on Saturday. Zen's not the only one taking on the boys.

There comes a time as a horse racing fan when you simply have to give credit when credit is due, and enjoy the moment, even if it costs you.

If Zenyatta wins the Classic, I will be the first to acknowledge her as a great horse and realize I was watching something special and memorable.

It's funny. Not too long ago I lost a small fortune on 8-1 Macho Again when he got snotnosed out by Rachel Alexandra. Rather than cussing or griping, all I said was,"Wow, what a great horse that was that beat me."

It didn't hurt that much to get beaten by a horse like Rachel Alexandra. Matter of fact it was one of the few times that I had a good tingle insides me after losing and I almost cried because that race was incredible. Had Macho Again lost to some bomb, then it would have been another story. I would have cried "fix" and reported Macho's jock for being in on it.

The point is I'd like to witness Zenyatta win even if it costs me. Coincidentally, the same thing happened to me last year.
She won, I lost. But I was still happy for her and racing - as I saw an incredible filly win a great BC race.

That being said, if she were to miraculously nose out Mine That Birdie, I would be stunned.....but nevertheless glad I witnessed it.

As a So. Cal. boy and a big John Shirreffs fan I too would love to experience a big finish and a big win by the big mare
She'll be in my final race spread

But a win against this group is not going to put her in the same league with Ruffian, it's just not.

Foolish Pleasure was a colt, not a mare.

Ouch! Yeah, the colt who "won" the match race with Ruffian.

All of Ruffian's family had leg problems. It's better that Zen has some distance from Native Dancer, who seems to carry forward "soft boned" genetics.
