I don't think i'm in favor of the .50 P-4 . The only reason I would want it is to lower the amount of signers one would have.
sorry i can't provide the link to the chrb site

The Board approved the application for the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club to operate a race meet at Del Mar from July 21 through September 8. Del Mar President and General Manager Craig Fravel reported that advance sales of tickets and reserved seats are up significantly over last year, especially among corporate interests, suggesting improved business for the upcoming meet. He also noted that Del Mar will be offering 50-cent Pick 4 wagering. And at the suggestion of the CHRB’s Pari-Mutuel Operations Committee, Del Mar will experiment with decimal odds displays in a limited way while retaining all of its traditional fractional odds displays. Chairman Brackpool agreed with Fravel that if full decimal odds displays are going to be presented, they should be introduced methodically and at all California racetracks, not just at Del Mar.

New guy, new thinking.
No more of the elitism of " we're different ( corporate speak which means better ), we have XYZ & the others don't. "
Since in the past only Del Mar had Trackus, does that mean that others in CA will have it now ?

nevermind a 50 cent pick 4, just give us an early pick 4 and that will be fine.

LD, I love the .50 p4 and love tracks that have .50 p3's too. I still play the same, but if it solely keeps me from getting signers, I'm all for it.

I hit a p3 at Churchill two weeks ago that would have paid $666, but since I played two 50 cent p3's I cash twice for 333. It was quicker for the transactions, no w2g's. I can't see any negative about the lower bet bases personally.

I knew there was a reason for saving jars of pennies. And to think some people call them useless.............

The $.50 wager makes the wager much more attractive for all bettors to wager on the Pick 4. Most bettors are losers(of course most of the DMFF folks are winners, except Vince P).
We saw what interest a $.50 bet Pick 5 did this past weekend at Monmouth., although it was a carryover into Sunday.
If the past Pick 4 pools at DM were $500-600K(weekend #'s), I see these growing to at least $800K, adding many losing tickets. The pick 4 prices that might pay a lot lower are the ones that pay $200 and less as much of the new and the casual bettors, including quacko's, to the pick 4 will be placing small tickets, probably in the $20 range and when these hit they often have the logical or low M/L horses on the tickets. Of course this logic is dependent on large fields. A $.50 pick 4 on small fields is not going to be a benefit to anyone and would be a turnoff, at least to me.

Lol....I think having a fify cent P4 will create even more degenerate gamblers and that's good for the game. The more uninformed money in these pools, the better for people like Andy C and Lurker and Sid City Rat.

OK - Here's the problem with the 50 cent P4s:

The pool is going to be 500K and the payoff will say 850K after a lone 50 cent ticket captures the whole pool. This creates mass confusion and this confusion drives the less savvy players away from the game. Case in point: HANA embraces Shirley Temple Downs instead of a real track because they easily get confused regarding the payoffs, takeout, and quality of horses. Free coffee might come into play, but that's a subject for another thread...

Most players have no idea what the pool size is and really don't give the payoff much of an analysis. Those who do follow the pools and do the analysis understand the situation and really aren't too concerned. So I am going to disagree with your view that mass confusion will rule the day.
