Free WiFi at DMTC?

Is there free WiFi at DMTC?

Nothing would be nicer than using my spanking new netbook on the paddock overlook.

Perhaps I will have to figure out how to tether my iPhone and netbook together.

How many boxes of See's before the front office staff gives up a WEP password to an interested forumite? ;) :ugeek:

(I don't know why I don't see a "quote" button anywhere, but this is in response to the post above)

You would think that with the new Del Mar ADW service, they wouldn't mind us betting online. Getting shut out ontrack is a real problem at Del Mar - people get shut out every race during the weekend. Offering free WiFi would be an inexpensive way to get more $$$ in both handle and into their ADW.

Just out of curiosity, how much does it cost to provide WiFi vs. the projected extra $$$ that comes in through to the handle from that source ? Not to mention the good will factor which will lead to more people availing themselves of the service which will in turn lead to larger wagering pools ?

Great point, dgstan. Those hard workers down at Del Mar probably didn't have the time. By the time it was brought up in a meeting, one said, "Well, we only have 5 months till the meet. Too much work for me. Gonna have to wait till next year."

Have it on good authority that Lester is also miffed by this. Says he gets lots of inside info by having his laptop at the track.

Just my feeling, I don't have the figures, but I think horsmen would come out worse with free wifi on track. Total handle would go up, but ON TRACK handle would go down. I think a much a much bigger percent of on track handle goes to purses (and flows to horsmen) and maintaining the premesis than adw handle. So even if for every $2 lost bet on track there was $3 added to adw handle, I think this would still be a net loss for horsemen.

Do they allow computers (or even cell phones) in the sports books in Vegas? Not last time I was there.
